Historical Background
During 1976-1976, leaders of teachers’ association of five Southeast Asia countries, consisting of Republic of Indonesia, Federation of Malaysia, Republic of the Philippines, Republic of Singapore, and Thailand had discussed and officially agreed on establishing a teacher association called the “ASEAN Council of Teachers” (ACT). The aims of ACT are set as: (1) to collaborate in the work of advancing mutual knowledge and understanding related to ASEAN philosophy and activities as well as to the ASEAN people’s spirit and culture;
(2) to promote and collaborate within the ASEAN countries joint project and programmes of mutual benefit concerning teachers, education science, and culture; and (3) To assist members in the development of educational activities which focus on promoting the aims and ideal of ASEAN.
The ASEAN Council of Teachers Convention is an important meeting of associations of ASEAN member countries which has been held continuously since 1987. The convention allows professional educators from all ASEAN member countries to jointly share knowledge and experience in the field of education, as well as professional development. All ASEAN member countries will take turns hosting the convention.
In 2023, at the 37th ASEAN Council of Teachers + Korea (ACT+1) Convention hosted by the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP), Malaysia, the meeting has resolved for the Teachers’ Council of Thailand to host the 38th ASEAN Council of Teachers + Korea (ACT+1) Convention in 2024 under the theme “Promoting Happy Schooling and Sustainability in Education on 6 – 8 September 2024 at the Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, Bangkok, Thailand with the number of 800 participants. The activities includes Leaders’ Meeting, Welcome Dinner, Official Opening Ceremony, Keynote Speech, Panel Discussion, Country Report, Parallel Session, Friendship Night, Adoption Resolution, and Official Closing Ceremony.
Objective
- To promote activities of the ACT+1 Convention and maintain cooperation and good relationship among teacher professional associations in ASEAN countries and Republic of Korea;
- To be a forum for sharing knowledge, ideas, experiences of educational and professional development in ASEAN.
Goal
To organize the 38th ASEAN Council of Teachers + Korea (ACT+1) Convention under the theme “Promoting Happy Schooling and Sustainability in Education” during 6-8 September 2024 at the Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, Bangkok
